The Awesome Fest Reviews THE RAID: REDEMPTION

Posted by Josh on 04/06/2012 - 2:20pm.

via Cinedelphia.com: “On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.” – Fight Club

In Gareth Evans’ 100 minute, bone crunching, balls-to the wall, monstrosity of a testosterone-fest, the survival rate for everyone also drops to zero. If you’re a bad guy, or even a good guy for that matter, prepare to have your ass severely kicked!

Cinedelphia Contest: The Catechism Cataclysm DVD's

Posted by Josh on 02/25/2012 - 4:48pm.

Via Cinedelphia: It was included in Cinedelphia’s Top 10 of 2011 and I’m pleased to say that The Catechism Cataclysm is just as uncomfortable and audacious as it was upon my first viewing at last year’s Cinefest (it didn’t receive a theatrical run in the Philly-area, but was available on VOD for a while). The Awesome Fest celebrate the film’s upcoming DVD release with a screening at the Trocadero this Monday at 8:00 PM ($3 admission goes towards a drink).

From Hi-Fructose Magazine: Conjoining natural elements such as bone, plant life and taxidermy with mechanical devices into elaborate ‘kinetic’ sculptures, Dutch artist Christiaan Zwanikken has landed in Philadelphia at Jinxed Gallery for his first stateside solo show, 'Convento'.

Convento - Philly Inquirer Coverage

Posted by Josh on 08/06/2011 - 9:13pm.

Two ivory-white goat skulls mounted on elaborate mechanical bodies butt heads in a goofy Punch-and-Judy show. They bob and weave, retreat - then strike.
Elegant, long-beaked bird skulls fly around the room, attached to mechanical arms suspended from the ceiling. Their beaks click and clack to create an odd, percussive song.
These are two of the kinetic sculptures featured in Philly-born filmmaker Jarred Alterman's new documentary Convento, an enigmatic look at the provocative work of Dutch artist Christiaan Zwanikken.
