The Awesome Fest welcomes presenting sponsor Parx Casino®; Announces a ten-week citywide film and music festival celebrating the 1980‘s. The Psychedelic Furs To Perform Opening Night Celebration.

(Philadelphia, PA.) - The Awesome Fest is teaming up with presenting sponsor Parx Casino®,
and media sponsor Citypaper, to launch a ten-week citywide film & music festival from June 14th
– August 19th, celebrating the 1980’s, including over 50 outdoor movies, special guests,
anniversary screenings, and popular musical acts from the decade. In keeping with the festival
tradition, all outdoor screenings will be presented free of charge.

The Opening night celebration kicks off Friday, June 14th with a live concert performance by The
Psychedelic Furs at The Trocadero Theatre, followed by an 80’s themed prom at Parx Casino®
the following night. The closing weekend of festivities (8/16-8/18) will feature a very special 25th
anniversary screening of the cult classic KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, with the
filmmakers in attendance. This will be The Chiodo Brothers first appearance in Philadelphia.

The Festival will also be presenting newer fare this summer, such as:

V/H/S/2 - (Pennsylvania Premiere) Searching for a missing student, two private investigators
break into his house and find collection of VHS tapes. Viewing the horrific contents of each
cassette, they realize there may be dark motives behind the student's disappearance. The much-anticipated sequel to V/H/S, this anthology features the work of Gareth Evans (The Raid), Jason
Eisner (Hobo With A Shotgun), Adam Wingard (You’re Next), and more! Premiered at Sundance.

I AM DIVINE (Philadelphia Premiere) How Divine, aka Harris Glenn Milstead, became John
Waters’ cinematic muse and an international drag icon. This documentary recently made its world
premiere at SXSW.

REWIND THIS! (Philadelphia Premiere – Director Josh Johnson & Producer Carolee Mitchell in
attendance) Home video changed the world. The cultural and historical impact of the VHS tape
was enormous. This film traces the ripples of that impact by examining the myriad aspects of
society that were altered by the creation of videotape. Premiered at SXSW.

Drawing on the classics of the 80’s – including Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, UHF, Revenge
Of The Nerds, E.T., They Live, and much more – the festival will also include a 10 film
retrospective of John Hughes’ (The Breakfast Club, Uncle Buck, Sixteen Candles, etc.) most
influential titles.

With a new collection of outdoor venues, The Awesome Fest’s iconic outdoor screenings will now
extend to Drexel Park in University City on Thursday evenings. Each Saturday evening, Parx
Casino (Bensalem, PA) will be hosting a double feature. The Awesome Fest will be returning to
its roots at Liberty Lands in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia every Friday and will
move indoors for Movie Monday at The Trocadero Theatre.

More venues will be announced shortly. The full program will be unveiled Saturday April 27th, at
The Legwarmers concert at The Trocadero Theatre.

For a sneak preview of the summer festivities, on Friday, May 31st, The Awesome Fest will play
host to a special presentation of WEEKEND AT BERNIE’S at Wizard World/Comic Con, with a
Q&A to follow from star Andrew McCarthy.

Tickets for the opening night celebration featuring The Psychedelic Furs are $20 and go on sale
Friday, April 5th at noon. Tickets can be purchased online at or at The
Trocadero Box Office located at 1003 Arch Street.
